This introductory chapter present an overview of The Oxford Handbook of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies. We delineate a definition of this specialty area of psychology as well as describe the purpose of this particular volume of the Oxford Handbook series. We provide a description of the Handbook including its 26 chapters and present them under the following section headings: Conceptual Foundations, Major Cognitive and Behavioral Approaches, Major Psychological Problems and Populations, and Special Topics. The contributors of the chapters in each section of the volume represent the most prominent names in the field regarding cognitive and behavioral theory and research and evidence-based clinical treatment in the specialty area.
