This article provides a historical account of Sikhs' settlement abroad starting in the colonial era to the contemporary period. While narrating major institutional developments within overseas Sikh communities the article highlights their interaction with host societies and the ways they have retained religious, cultural, and linguistic heritage abroad and kept a close relationship with their homeland, the Punjab.
