Abstract and Keywords

This chapter discusses the European Union’s external action by focusing on three policies: the Common Commercial Policy (CCP), Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), and Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). It examines the language of integration in which they are couched in primary law but also the fundamental differences in their legal framework. It considers the substantive and procedural rules of each policy and highlights the distinctly political factors that shape their implementation.
