Abstract and Keywords

This section presents a series of exemplars of innovative conflict management practices. Although no one model of best practices for a conflict management system exists, these exemplars show a set of approaches that can be used to effectively manage conflict across a range of different national contexts and organizational settings. Two examples focus on labor–management collective bargaining relationships, illustrating the use of a partnership approach to foster an improved union–management relationship and an innovative med+arb approach to resolving bargaining impasses. Two other examples focus on systems designed to resolve individual employment rights conflicts, one operating within an organization and one as part of a public dispute resolution system, yet both utilizing mediation as a key alternative dispute resolution (ADR) technique.
