Abstract and Keywords

This article analyses contemporary diplomatic activities concerning health. The analysis reveals an area of diplomatic activities marked by confusion, a range of health threats, a proliferation in the actors, a complex and multiplying set of diplomatic processes, and controversies about what shapes health diplomacy. To capture the texture of contemporary health diplomacy, it examines how health threats, concepts, and mechanisms arise in different diplomatic contexts. The article concludes with thoughts on the future of this relationship – a future that will not, in all likelihood, continue on the trajectory which has made health an increasingly important issue in diplomatic endeavours.

Keywords: diplomatic activity, health threats, diplomacy
