Abstract and Keywords

This article considers the following: appearance concerns and perceptions of body size in people without a diagnosed eating disorder; the challenges to both psychological and physical health posed by the environment; the links between weight-related appearance concerns and disordered eating; and how to raise awareness of the potential physical health risks of overweight/obesity without fuelling appearance concerns and/or using stigmatizing appearance-related messages.
