This chapter updates the record of fishing weirs and traps on the Northwest Coast, and describes some of the new insights researchers have provided into their function and meaning. It discusses Northwest Coast weirs and traps in global perspective; uses of weirs and traps; fishing weirs and traps as part of a continuum of intertidal resource management; the use of Traditional Ecological Knowledge; and reciprocal relationships between people and fish.
