This article focuses on the governance of national or supranational central banks, and discusses the important elements of governance, which include independence, accountability, and transparency. It explains the distinction of these elements from others that pertain to the internal governance of the central bank's monetary policy committee. The article also analyses central bank independence, reviews central bank accountability and transparency, and discusses internal governance procedures of central banks.
