Abstract and Keywords

This article discusses centrality in the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods of classical rhetorical delivery in the formal education of future preachers. It studies the ways actio is recognised in different manuals of rhetoric and of preaching. The article also discusses the relevance of rhetorical delivery to James I and provides the background where similar anecdotes of actio from this period can be read against.
