Abstract and Keywords

This article considers the different versions of the patristic debate between 1517 and 1720. It focuses on the century between John Jewel's Challenge sermon that occurred in 1559, and the Restoration of the monarchy. It chronologically reviews several important and controversial debates from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and emphasises their primary doctrinal flashpoints using a patrological perspective. The article also considers the Fathers as a field of discourse.
