Abstract and Keywords

This chapter provides a selective discussion of some main themes in the comparative investigation of geometric encoding for spatial navigation, and is meant to complement rather than duplicate other recent reviews. Although most investigations of geometric encoding have concerned the use of geometric shape formed by surfaces for reorientation, this chapter discusses the encoding of geometric information in a broader range of situations, including when participants are not disoriented and when spatial information is derived from arrays of landmarks.

Keywords: geometric encoding, spatial navigation, geometric information
