Abstract and Keywords
Retirement planning has typically focused on fi nancial issues. With increased longevity, decreases in retirement savings and investments, and new expectations of this life stage, the meaning of retirement and therefore retirement planning is changing. New words, services, concepts, and organizations have evolved to address a life stage that means not only fi nancial security but also growth, fulfillment, and giving back to the community. Simultaneously, more older adults need to work for pay, postpone retirement, or possibly never retire. A holistic approach to the retirement life stage is beginning to emerge among financial planners, life coaches, and enterprises that provide a meaningful transition into what has traditionally been called retirement.
