Abstract and Keywords

This chapter examines mobile music in Mexico based on interviews conducted in Mexico City between May 2007 and May 2009. The chapter describes the wireless telecommunication carriers, the content providers, their revenue models, and the larger market structure in which the carriers and providers operate. In addition, the chapter analyzes hardware-software synergies and the regulatory domains that are likely to influence the commodification of mobile music distribution. The chapter concludes by considering the problems associated with data collection on mobile value-added services.
