Abstract and Keywords

This article looks at employment relation in the U.S. and Western Europe. The predominant mode of employment in the U.S. is a common law doctrine of Employment at Will and under this model employees must rely upon bargaining under conditions of competitive market exchange in order to secure many of their employment related rights. In contrast, European views of this relationship emphasize a partnership between employer and employee. This article evaluates whether there are moral reasons to prefer one view or the other.
