Transdiagnostic, or nondiagnosis-specific, conceptualizations of anxiety disorder have been gaining in popularity recently. Drawing from multiple lines of evidence, including genetics, comorbidity, and treatment response, the evidence suggests greater overlap than difference among the anxiety diagnoses. As such, multiple groups have begun to investigate the efficacy and utility of transdiagnostic cognitive behavioral treatments for anxiety designed for use with diagnostically heterogeneous groups. The current chapter reviews the theoretical basis underlying these treatments, describes the content of the treatments, and summarizes the emerging efficacy evidence.
