Abstract and Keywords
This chapter provides a review of the extant literature on multicultural education and related competencies and pedagogy, feminist theories and pedagogy, and queer pedagogy. In this light, we analyze the literature on the feminist classroom and the challenges that educators experience when employing feminist pedagogy. This discussion is followed by a review of the relationship between multicultural and feminist pedagogies in light of the social justice agenda proposed at the 2001 Houston Counseling Psychology Conference and the challenges of implementing its goals. Lastly, the authors identify future directions and encourage counseling psychologists to build upon the intersections of feminism and multiculturalism to develop a social justice pedagogy for the discipline.
