Abstract and Keywords

This chapter offers an overview of the status quaestionis of the sacraments as a topic of ecumenical dialogue. After pointing out, by way of introduction, the centrality and complexity of the matter and the methodological options this demands, the present status of the various dialogues is reviewed. Thus, first the results achieved in the different bilateral dialogues, particularly with regard to sacraments, are presented, followed by the results achieved by Faith and Order. Next, the chapter deals with the themes pertaining to the general theology of the sacraments studied in the international dialogues as well as in two significant local dialogues. Lastly, and by way of conclusion, the chapter mentions some common characteristics between Catholics and Protestants, which have enabled significant convergences and have shed new light, allowing us to approach traditional divergences in a new way.
