Abstract and Keywords

This article introduces research on modes of economic governance at the national level, in the form of varieties of capitalism, and corporate governance, at the firm level. The findings indicate that economic modes of governance at the national level are not uniform across time and space because institutions that govern economic relations have developed over time and differ between nations. At the firm level, research has focused on the economic impact of alternative governance regimes. The article concludes that the discussions at both the national and firm levels of analysis developed under the pressure of the rise of Anglo-Saxon modes of governance and shareholder value perspectives over three decades.
