Happiness is timeless. As the contributors to the handbook show, people throughout history have investigated and pursued happiness. Still, with the emergence of positive psychology, as well as developments in the biological and sociological sciences, happiness theory and research have gained momentum. Together, the contributors to the handbook have highlighted key themes and pointed to directions of future inquiry into happiness. The handbook’s conclusion offers a synthesis, and concluding remarks on this burgeoning field of scholarship.
