Abstract and Keywords

Affordance-based movement finding is described as a body-freedom practice that can contribute to the emancipation of improvisation from the controlling grip of the danced-choreographic. Affordance-based movement finding privileges presence-ing movement over past-ing movement. Performance works animated and nourished by affordance-based movement finding are described along with facets of the danced-choreographic from which these works seek to unfasten. Discussion of patriarchal dualisms that appear to underlie core values of, and routine habits in, the danced-choreographic are discussed.

Keywords: movement affordances, danced-choreographic, presence-ing, past-ing, body freedom
