Abstract and Keywords
This chapter discusses the Dutch academic trends with regard to the study of Islam in the Netherlands since the 1970s. It reflects the strong interaction between social developments, government policies, and academic research, and demonstrates how a focus on ethnicity and culture gradually was replaced with an interest in religion. The chapter provides a comprehensive overview of data, surveys, and studies on Islam in the Netherlands, and the reception they received in public, political, and academic discourses.
